A savvy mum-of-five has shared how she feeds her family for an entire week, for just over £20.
The budget recipes include breakfast, lunch and dinner and include staples like cottage pie to scotch pancakes.
Lorna Cooper, from Paisley near Glasgow, shared her shopping list totalling just £20.21, which she claims can feed a family of four every day for an entire week.
In her ‘one week meal plan’ she listed three meals for each day and broke down all of the ingredients needed to make them.
On Sunday for example she suggests scotch pancakes, banana and chocolate spread for breakfast, followed by egg muffins for lunch and roast chicken, mixed vegetables and roast potatoes dinner.
For another day, she suggests porridge with strawberry jam for breakfast, noodles with mixed vegetables for lunch and Cajun dirty rice for the main meal.
After listing all of the ingredients for all the meals for each day she tallied up the cost to a total of £20.21.
Lorna learnt how to cook on the shoestring budget from a young age after her mum died with she was just 11.
Lorna was also said to be inspired after a “£30” government parcel was found to contain far less, with some packages really costing about £5.
She said: “I wanted to show people how they can get much more on a small budget with my weekly meal plan.
“Hopefully this helps some families who are struggling financially as a result of the Covid pandemic and not being able to have access to free school meals.”
Lorna added: “Most of the products in the shopping list can be found at Tesco, the eggs from Farmfoods and stock cubes from Aldi. Sometimes it is best to shop around, it may be less convenient, but it makes a huge difference to your budget.”
The 39-year-old heads up the Feed your Family website which began as a small Facebook group with the aim of ‘helping to re-educate a generation of parents relying on expensive ready meals and jars of sauce to feed their families.’
The site posts recipes, tips and offers advice and in a year has built up a following of more than 500,000 people.
She has also written a book called ‘Feed Your Family for £20 a week.’
